Happy New Year [New Year, New Start] Pebble Beach

2013 was a trying year for my family.  At the end of 2012, my grandmother passed away from lung cancer at 87 years young. At the same time, my grandfather, her primary caretaker was battling non-hodgkins lymphoma. Shortly after her passing, my grandfather was hospitalized – and never left.  He passed on March 15, 2013. Leaving behind 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 3.5 great-grandchildren, my grandparents left quite the legacy. Personally, I inherited my grandmothers stubbornness (as did my oldest daughter), my grandfathers drive and their love for family. Both of my grandparents were avid golfers for decades. They taught their children how to play and my uncles have both become quite successful players as well as some of their grandchildren (I can’t hit a ball to save my life). One of their favorite locations in the world was Cypress Point at Pebble Beach. They even had a huge picture hanging in their family room of it – it was only fitting that this is where we were to say our final goodbye’s to these two amazing people.

On New Years Day – what would have been my grandfathers 89th birthday (my grandmothers 89th would have directly followed on January 7th) we headed out to Pebble Beach. We hung out on the beach for a bit and waited for sunset. As sunset approached, we all traveled to the 16th green at Cypress Point. With golf balls that were drilled with holes to hold my grandparents ashes – family members hit balls one-by-one into the ocean. It was beautiful, emotional and moving.

Please enjoy a few personal photos from that special day.
