Kimberly & Ian // Casa Real Wedding

Wedding photography is not only about shooting a few pictures on a couple’s big day but also about meeting new people and creating lasting relationships with them. And even though we might sometimes have to work on the weekends, it’s all so worth it in the end! Plus, we, too, get to join in on the celebrations while creating beautiful visual stories that our couples get to treasure for years to come. And since no two weddings are alike, we always look forward to seeing what each new couple has in store for us! Kimberly and Ian were another sweet couple whose wedding, despite being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, was full of laughter and many sentimental moments that we got to witness and document. They got married at the dazzling Casa Real in Pleasanton, California, and here’s a look at everything that happened at their wedding.

Meet Kimberly And Ian

Kimberly and Ian met each other at college. They were introduced to each other by their roommates, and they immediately hit it off. It was love at first sight for both of them, and they’ve been together ever since. They’re the perfect example of college sweethearts! Talking about their proposal, Kimberly said, “Ian proposed at Concannon Vineyard. He staged a picnic with my best friends and pulled me aside. We went back to my parents’ house, where all of our families were waiting to celebrate!” Celebrations only become sweeter when the families join in, and not just their proposal; even Kimberly and Ian’s wedding was a testament to that.

Ian And Kimberly’s Wedding At Casa Real

Kimberly and Ian were among the many couples whose wedding plans were affected by the outbreak of COVID-19. Originally scheduled to tie the knot in August 2020, they made the difficult decision to postpone their nuptials to March 2021. While the pandemic meant that Kimberly and Ian couldn’t decide what to plan and for when, they actually said “I do” while pulling off a one-of-a-kind wedding! Plus, their wedding was our first project after the lockdown, which is another reason why these two will always be special for us.

We started Kimberly and Ian’s wedding day photography by documenting their getting ready moments. Kimberly’s stunning wedding dress was designed by Maggie Sottero of J’aime Bridal, and it had delicate lace work all over. The bride had an all-star team helping her get ready for the wedding, which also included Nikki Notarte, who did an amazing job with the hair and makeup.

While Kimberly’s bridesmaids were helping with the final touches, her mom gently held her face and smiled at her proudly. It was such a touching moment between the mother and her daughter. The whole room was filled with love and excitement as Kimberly got ready to start a new journey with Ian.

Kimberly and Ian invited 125 guests to their wedding and had a traditional outdoor wedding ceremony officiated by their family friend. Their ceremony was held in the lovely Sun Garden of Casa Real, and their wedding color theme included navy blue, silver, and dusty rose/mauve. It was clear that the couple really put their heart and soul into planning such an elegant wedding! And kudos to Delford West Florals and Pleasanton Rentals & Fantasy Sound Event Services for the amazing setup.

The couple didn’t do a first look, but the look on Ian’s face when he saw Kimberly walking down the aisle was priceless. His eyes welled up, and it was such a heart-melting moment. We always look forward to capturing the groom’s reaction! It never disappoints. Kimberly and Ian held each other’s hands throughout the ceremony and looked into one another’s as they said their vows.

After the newlyweds sealed their marriage with a kiss, it was time for some fun wedding party portraits! The bridesmaids and groomsmen were so vivacious and a lot of fun to work with. One of our favorite moments was when the groomsmen and the ring bearer flexed their Marvel cufflinks.

Kimberly and Ian’s wedding reception was a sight to behold. The venue had a massive chandelier with crystals hanging from the ceiling like raindrops! “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray Lamontagne played as the newlyweds swayed romantically during their first dance. The emotional father-daughter dance was also so sweet, and the reception party also included a garter and bouquet toss, which are always fun to shoot. Everyone at the reception was kind and gracious – happy to be celebrating and dancing as the Gatsby Entertainment Group DJ played the grooviest music.

Towards the end, we asked Kimberly and Ian their favorite part of the wedding planning process, and they said, “Taking our beautiful engagement photos”. And since we also shoot engagement sessions, we can totally understand why!
