Bridal Boudoir // Film

A few weeks ago I headed over to Nashville with the amazing Julie Paisley. I first met Julie back in 2012 when I was just getting into weddings. Fast forward nearly exactly 3 years and I’ve enjoyed photographing some amazing weddings, but I still want something, “more.”

I began my photography journey on a Minolta 35mm camera back in 1996/1997 – right when everything was beginning to go digital. I would photograph anything and everything and played with those yummy smelling chemicals in the dark room. Everything was black and white – and everything simply had life. I’ve always questioned going, “back” since I began my photography business.

There was definitely a time when going, “back,” just wasn’t possible. I was constantly overshooting (hello 1k shots taken during a small family session or 6k at a wedding), learning my style and voice, and more importantly learning how to work with people in front of the camera. Even now, it’s still not very practical. I deliver upwards of 1,000 images per wedding – in the film world, that would cost nearly $1K to develop alone. What I do look forward to is shooting a few roles of film with every wedding and becoming a hybrid photographer of sorts.

For now, here is a little peek of a bridal boudoir session that we did at Julie’s cottage…

So in conclusion, I love the color of the Portra 400 and I love the black and white, although, there is far too much grain in the Ilford 3200 for me.  I love the richness and feel the photos evoke.
